The Story

Walden University in an online university that had a very outdated, mostly manual application process for its prospective students.

The Ask

In order to attract and retain more prospective students, we set out to simplify the application process, make it a more engaging to select a program of interest, and give them intuitive tools to gather all the documents and information needed to apply. The target users (prospective students and administrators) needed to be able to view the status of an application, request and upload transcripts, and receive alerts if either party needed to take action at any given step. The solution also needed to be mobile-friendly.

Role, Process, Who I Worked With

• As UX lead I collaborated with internal Appirio team, stakeholders, and SMEs to fully understand the application process and technical constraints
• Facilitated working sessions and wireframe review sessions with stakeholders, managing signoff on multiple workflows with cascading dependencies
• Created all wireframes, provided design direction and facilitated a UI design challenge using our crowdsourcing design community, TopCoder
• Worked with designers and our developer to ensure consistency during design and prototype production
